SAN DIEGO, Calif. – April 29, 2008 – EDSA Micro Corp. (www.edsa.com) the leading developer of power analytics solutions for the design, testing, and diagnosis of complex electrical power systems – has just added another commendation to its list of industry accolades: Finalist of Consulting-Specifying Engineer (CSE) magazine’s coveted “Product of the Year” award for its Paladin DesignBase Version 1.2. CSE’s judges were impressed by the software’s unique ability to create power system models that can be easily modified to operate in "live mode," meaning that:
- The designer's intent no longer stops at the deployment phase: it becomes embedded in live operations.
- Live operational data are compared to the design model – down to the most intricate specifications of the smallest components – millions of times per second, to ensure operations are "on spec."
- As equipment changes are made, the design model can assimilate those changes and remain continually updated, even years after the design is released.
“Engineers are traditionally very conservative when specifying products for building systems. The Product of the Year competition highlights new or refined products that engineers have found valuable during the products’ first year in the market. This helps accelerate the improvement of building performance by making them more energy efficient, safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly, and less costly over their lifecycle,” said Michael Ivanovich, Consulting Specifying Engineer’s editor-in-chief.
“We’re very honored to be named a finalist by the Consulting Specifying Engineer and its readers,” said Mark A. Ascolese, Chairman and CEO of EDSA. “Imagine if a mechanical CAD program used to design an automotive brake assembly could tell each car owner how well his brakes are performing, when they’ll need maintenance, and how many miles are left on the brake pads. This is precisely what the new release of Paladin DesignBase 1.2 makes it easy to do within electrical power infrastructure,”
“Three finalists were selected in each of 11 categories by a panel of judges comprised of professional engineers who regularly design and specify HVAC, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing systems. Subscribers to CSE will begin voting in May to determine the ranking of the finalists as gold, silver, or bronze winners. CSEsubscribers also will cast one vote for the Most Valuable Product (MVP) distinction among all finalists. Winners will be announced in July, and a write-up of the winners will appear in the September issue.
“Competition was fierce this year; the judges had a hard time narrowing the finalists down to three for each category. We take this as a sign that manufacturers are investing more in new-product R&D, which is a huge win for the buildings industry and the environment,” said Jim Langhenry, Consulting-Specifying Engineer publisher.
