Power Analytics To Be Featured At Grand Opening Of New EnerNex Smart Grid Labs Facility

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – February 28, 2012 – Power Analytics and EnerNex will mark the opening of the new state-of-the-art EnerNex Smart Grid Labs interoperability evaluation facility in Knoxville, TN on Wednesday, February 29 with a Green Button workshop at 1:00 p.m. followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony, tours and a reception from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. All grand opening activities will take place at EnerNex headquarters at 620 Mabry Hood Rd., Suite 101, Knoxville.Power Analytics has provided several products to manage monitor and test the microgrid
solutions in the Lab.

EnerNex Smart Grid Labs is the unveiling of a premiere testing facility for end-to-end Smart Grid device interoperability demonstrations. Power Analytics has provided EnerNex its Paladin® DesignBase™ capabilities for designing and modeling electric networks. With this solution, EnerNex will be able to easily model the connection and disconnection of nearly any manufactured piece of equipment and demonstrate how it will affect its local grid. Additionally, Power Analytics Paladin® SmartGrid Power Management System (SPMS) solution will be employed to enable visualization and analytics of real time state information for all of EnerNex’s Smart Grid Labs equipment.

“Power Analytics is proud to serve an integral role in the new Smart Grid Labs and are pleased to provide our Paladin® SmartGrid Power Management System™ as an overall microgrid management, monitoring, testing and integration solution,” said Raj Chudgar, Vice President SmartGrid/Microgrid for Power Analytics. “We believe the Lab will provide unique third party interoperability testing opportunities, allow customers to see microgrid solutions in action,
understand their value and further demonstrate and advance the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) standards.” Power Analytics will also exhibit the University of California, San Diego microgrid project at the grand opening to show how the Lab would appear under the Power Analytics solution and illustrate samples for how the equipment and integration would be provided. The demonstration conveys the ability to optimize renewable generation and traditional generation using energy storage to balance loads while also providing users with an understanding of how
their equipment could be viewed, tested or integrated within the EnerNex Smart Grid Labs.

“EnerNex is pleased to have Power Analytics as a platform provider for the grand opening of the Smart Grid Labs. The microgrid controller built by Power Analytics, UC San Diego and EnerNex demonstrates the value of optimized energy management of multiple facilities located throughout the University of California, San Diego. The featured demonstration shows how combined heat and power (CHP) and renewable solar generation can be balanced with energy storage,” said Kay Stefferud, EnerNex Director of Consulting Services. “Moving forward Enterprise Energy Management Systems will optimize energy usage while incorporating renewable energy at penetration levels approaching 100 percent. Using detailed distribution and transmission system models, cost-effective grid modernization equipment improvements
will be identified and validated prior to capital investment thus lowering costs while increasing reliability.”
